In the digital world, our conversations, photos, faces, voices and locations are left behind and passed along more easily than we think. SACKGRAM is a Privacy Protection Messenger built to leave fewer of those traces. It is for adults aged 18 and over.
Different from the moment you sign up
SACKGRAM does not ask for your phone number, email address or real name. All you need to start is a SACKGRAM ID of your choice and a password.
You connect only with people you choose
On SACKGRAM, every connection starts with a QR code or a dedicated link. You do not need to give your phone number or email address to someone you do not yet trust. People you have not connected with cannot message or call you, and no ads reach you either.
Conversations open only on the two phones — End-to-end encryption
Messages, photos, videos, files and call audio are end-to-end encrypted. They are encrypted on the sending phone and can be decrypted only on the receiving phone. Anyone who intercepts them along the way cannot read them, and neither can SACKGRAM. This encryption is free for every user.
What you delete disappears from three places — Triple Evaporation
You can set an evaporation timer for each room, from 1 minute to 7 days. You can delete a message you sent, for both sides, at any time by pressing and holding it.
Messages, photos and files you delete, and records whose evaporation time has passed (including call records), disappear from three places — the app screen, both phones, and Google Cloud — and cannot be recovered. Messages, photos and files that reach Google Cloud through the SACKGRAM app are, from the start, encrypted digital code that no one can read, and Triple Evaporation deletes even that.
SACKGRAM does not run a central server of its own.
Protecting your voice — Voice Privacy
Technology that can clone a voice from a short sample (about 3 seconds) is known to exist. During a call, SACKGRAM changes the pitch of your voice inside your phone before sending it. Your real voice does not leave your phone, which lowers the chance that your voice can be cloned. How you speak and how fast you speak stay the same, so the conversation still flows naturally.
When Voice Privacy is on, the other person's screen shows it, so you both know.
Protecting your location — Call IP protection (Location Privacy)
In app calls where the two devices connect directly, the devices exchange IP addresses the moment the call connects. It is known that, with a computer and free software available on the internet, the other person's IP address and approximate location (at the level of city and network provider) can be found within a minute.
With the default setting, SACKGRAM's one-to-one calls connect through a relay, so the other person cannot learn your IP address. This protection is free for every user, and you can turn it off in Settings. SACKGRAM also does not collect GPS location, and removes location data from the photos and videos you send, whether you send them as a photo or as a file. If a phone cannot remove it from a particular photo, the app tells you before you send it.
Designed to leave less behind
- SACKGRAM has no video calls, so that your face is not left behind in digital space.
- Screenshots and screen recording are blocked on main screens such as conversations, calls, photos and videos.
- Messages, photos, videos and files you receive cannot be forwarded to others or copied inside SACKGRAM. Only the sender can send them again.
- If the other person is using Voice Privacy or a speakerphone, you are told on screen.
- Scan QR opens only SACKGRAM invite codes. Any other QR code of unknown origin is not opened; its contents are shown as plain text.
Your account stays yours even if you lose your phone
Your account key is stored in app-private storage protected by your phone's security hardware (Android Keystore). If you turn on conversation recovery, a locked copy of that key is kept in Google Cloud; only your passkey can open it, and SACKGRAM cannot. If you set up account recovery, you can get your account back on a new phone with your passkey (your phone's fingerprint, face, PIN or pattern). Account recovery is free.
Everplace rooms — your own place that people can find from anywhere (SACKGRAM EVERPLACE)
An Everplace room is a space for shops and organizations. The owner makes a signboard with Name · One line about it · Address · When you're open · Photos · News & promotions, and can update it with new news at any time. The signboard's QR code does not expire (while you are on the Gold plan), so you can print it on business cards or display it in your shop and keep using it. It is a digital business card you can hand out freely.
SACKGRAM users around the world can browse signboards by country, region and category. Anyone who wants to get in touch first knocks (asks to join), and the owner decides whether to let them in. No one can come in without knocking.
The owner decides what the signboard shows. It can carry an address and a phone number, or show nothing at all and keep every conversation and call inside SACKGRAM. Customers, too, can talk with the place without giving their phone number or name.
Who it is for
People for whom being identified would be a problem. Celebrities, athletes, legal professionals, journalists and other professionals whose daily life and contact details would be a problem if exposed can protect their privacy with Voice Privacy, no video calls, no identity disclosure, call IP protection and Triple Evaporation.
Getting in touch with someone you have just met. You do not need to give your phone number or email address to someone you do not yet trust. Connect by QR, talk, and decide for yourself whether to keep in touch, without revealing who you are.
A, a tour guide. A welcomes new tourists every week. During a trip, A makes a group with a QR code so everyone can stay in touch without knowing each other's contact details, and closes the group when the trip ends. Instead, A hands out a digital business card carrying an Everplace signboard QR, so guests who want to find A again can get in touch at any time.
B, an estate agent. Giving a personal phone number to clients B had never met before always felt like a burden. Now B is contacted through an Everplace signboard QR and keeps work conversations inside SACKGRAM. B's identity stays protected, and the work carries on as before.
C, who needs advice. Even with a worry that is hard to share with anyone, C can ask for advice from a professional who runs an Everplace room, without revealing who C is or what C's voice sounds like.
No ads — supported by subscriptions
Privacy features are the same on every plan. SACKGRAM is designed not to collect personal information for advertising in the first place, which is why it runs on paid subscriptions instead of ads.
Patents
SACKGRAM's messenger technology and Everplace rooms are the subject of two U.S. provisional patent applications.
